Dr Adam Barrett and the ‘Senior Smiles’ oral health program

‘Senior Smiles’ oral health program is a pilot project funded by Medicare Local Central Coast, NSW and managed by the University of Newcastle Oral Health team from the Ourimbah Campus.  The program provides residents in five Residential Aged Care Facilities on the NSW Central Coast with an on-site hygienist who undertakes oral health risk assessments, individual oral health plans and dental health education for residents and staff within these facilities.  Once a resident has been identified as needing dental care a number of referral pathways are in place to ensure that residents have their oral health needs met.

Dr Adam Barrett and his committed staff at Seascape Dental, The Entrance, volunteered to be involved in this project and are providing a professional and dedicated service. His team deliver comprehensive dental care using portable equipment at the facilities for those residents who are unable to travel and for those that can he offers pick and return transportation at no cost to the resident.   This is a unique partnership that enables some of our most frail and elderly to receive the dental care they need in a timely and caring manner.  Committed to providing this unique service Dr Barrett and his team have a practice moto of ‘patients are people first’ this is certainly demonstrated in their commitment to the ‘Senior Smiles’ program.

Dr Barrett said being involved in the ‘Senior Smiles’ oral health program is very gratifying. Our team has found this to be a very rewarding program, allowing us to help people that otherwise are unable to gain access to dental treatment. We are proud to be associated with such a great initiative.
